Ashley U15’s attempt to win their first game of the season was thwarted by the weather on Sunday.

We entertained our neighbours and friends Bowdon Vale and invited them to bat first. Early morning wickets at HQ have been lively to say the least. However, this week Ashley’s opening bowlers exploited it to the full. Fiery opening spells by Alex Eaton (2 wickets) and Tom Smith (3 wickets) left Bowdon reeling on 10 for 5. First change bowlers continued the carnage with Ben McKie (1 wicket) and Jack (yes he’s back and enjoying it) Roberts (1 wicket). With the dangerous O’Rourke starting to let loose for the opposition, skipper Matt Wardle (1 wicket) made a huge decision to bring himself on, hoping his spin bowling would subdue the batsman. How right he was! However it was the outstanding James Semple (2 wickets) who wrapped things up, leaving Bowdon Vale 67 all out. It would be unfair not to mention Martin Blain (4 catches) behind the timbers and the good work from Harry Hatchell, Rob Oldbury and the irrepressible Alistair Berryman in the field.

Alas, heavy rain had already started to fall and the game was abandoned at the half way stage.
