A short trip down the road to Hale Barns and the forecast was bad and there was rain in the air not another rained off game surely as both Ashley and Hale Barns were 2 of the 3 teams to suffer the worse from the weather this season. However yet again the forecast was wrong and the rain held off. On what looked to be a good batting wicket the Ashley skipper elected to bat and the Burgess ‘Brothers’ went out to open the innings and hoped for a better batting display than previous weeks. Unfortunately this was not to be as Skipper Burgess played a bad shot to short and wide delivery somehow making it to an unorthodox deep first slip. Cusack who was umpiring [The only chance he will get to the wicket so early in an innings] had commented that he doubted anything would get to someone fielding so deep and the skip agreed; how cruel this game can be. Burt and Burgess M swiftly followed and Ashley were 7 for 3 off 8 overs. Coffey joined Shelston at the crease for several overs and they moved the score onto 39 before Coffey chipped one up off Hale Barns Skip Pope. Smith followed in the next over faintly nicking one to the keeper and Ashley were 39 for 5. Blain joined Shelston and batted well to help Ashley onto 63 before he looped one up to short square leg. Shelston got to his 50 but the rest of the Ashley lower order like the top order failed to reach double figures the only other player to get to 10 was Mr. E Xtras. Apart from Shelston this was another poor batting display by the Ashley 3rds. After the usual smashing tea at Hale Barns Ashley went out in determined mood as did the Hale Barns openers with Arora hitting Wardle for six which he took off his middle stump. Burt took a superb one handed catch at second slip off Agrawal to remove Hesketh but then somehow the ball slid out of his hands and the chance was gone; no one can work out how that one got away. Arora was then dropped again off Agrawal as both openers were flinging the bat. A change of bowling saw Burt ping in a leg stump Yorker which Arora had no reply to however Hale Barns were already half way to their required target. Cusack managed to pick up a couple of wickets up and P Burgess one but the game had slipped away and Hale Barns won by 6 wickets. Again another good display on the field with the ball but majorly lacking in the batting department on the day. With the visit of top of the table Stretton at the weekend the 3rds need to find some batting form and quick.
