Ashley vs Newton Heath

Date:  Sunday 8th June 2008

Venue: Greaves Field, Newton Heath

Toss won by: Ashley

Batted First: Ashley

Make a note of the date, Sunday 8th June. On this day, Ashley’s history book was revised. On a blisteringly hot morning two young batsmen strolled out to the crease. An hour or so later both returned on unbeaten hundred’s.

I believe that this is the first time in Ashley’s history, that two Ashley batsmen have scored century’s in the same innings.

Matt Wardle 103 not out and Tommy Smith 100 not out were the two batsmen in question.

Both batsmen guided, nudged, hooked, pulled, cut and drove all round Newton Heath on the way to chanceless hundreds.

Congratulations and well done !

Let’s hope that these guys are here for many years to come.
