Ashley vs Brooklands 5th

Date:  15th June 2008

Venue: Brooklands

Toss won by: Ashley

Batted First:

The fourths are still in search of their first win after they became the 3 Ashley XI of the weekend not to beat Brooklands. The opposition included some excellent pacey bowlers and took blending youth and experience to new extremes with the septuagenarian Harper opening the batting and young shaver Mather at first change, age difference at least 58 years.

Gibson and Hatchell got Ashley off to a steady start on a fast and bouncy edge of the square track before Hatch got in to trouble trying to hook one. Another unnecessary run out saw Coleman fall for a duck and despite some quality cover driving Blain was well caught to give the accurate Nammikanti a deserved wicket. Agrawal & Aspden showed patience to take the score to 85 for 7, but runs were hard to come by. Akshat batted 18 overs for his top score in an innings of great maturity; unfortunately he had little run scoring support. The last wicket fell in the 50th over as Ashley gave up its batting point in an effort to post a decent total.

After an inadequate teas consisting mainly of Philadelphia cheese sandwiches and tap water Quirk got on with it dealing mainly in boundaries as he put away anything wide with little ceremony. The introduction of Eadie slowed the run rate, but the Brooklands top order played shots knowing they had plenty in the shed. Good catches by Aspden and Jahanmogan gave the fielders something to huddle about.

Next up 2nd placed Northwich at Ashley and the halfway point in the season.
