Ashley vs Brooklands

Date:  16th May 2008

Venue: Ashley

Toss won by:

Batted First: Brooklands

The under 13s recorded their first win of the season at home to Brooklands on Friday. James Semple hit the winning run off the last ball of the match, but all 11 players can feel proud of the part each one of them played in this great game.

Brooklands batted first and were soon struggling at 11 for 4 off 4 overs thanks to some good catching and a run out, but Maitra and Page-Laker added 66 for the 5th wicket before Maitra retired unbeaten. Bloomfield then came to the crease and took the score to 107 with Page-Laker run out off the last ball of innings.

Berryman was unable to produce the kind of innings he managed the previous week when he was caught for a duck; Lavers and Felix repelled the opening attack lead by the tall and strong Bakari who beat the edge a few times. Felix fell with the score on 19 when he was beaten by an excellent throw from the boundary but Lavers set about the change bowlers and produced the shot of the day when he larruped a full delivery from Dougherty through extra cover. Along with Eaton they picked off the bad balls and took the score to 79 in the 16th over. Lavers retired and Smith joined Eaton at the crease with 30 needed off 4 overs. With Maitra bowling a tidy spell it needed the lads to score heavily off the other bowlers and they managed more than a run a ball and the game was there to be won. Alas Smith bowled Jones and soon after Eaton retired with another unbeaten knock. Graham was joined at the crease by Semple and the task was straightforward, three needed off three. Semple lifted his first ball towards mid on, but as the fielder grassed the chance the boys scrambled a single, two off two needed. Graham hit the ball into the gap for his first run of the season and it was down to the last ball. Semple again went aerial but the fielder couldn’t hold on and the winning run was registered.

A superb game off cricket for all spectators and with a high degree of fielding and catching by players of both sides despite the cold weather
