With the weather looking uncertain Skipper Ruby managed to avoid his uncertainties by losing the toss on a surface tinged with green but a credit to Dave Twinney as always, as Sir Beefy might say in his match report – ‘It may offer something for the bowlers early on but should be excellent to bat on’, Ashley knew the importance of every point on offer in a very tight relegation battle.

The Blue Caps opened up with George ‘I’m creaking a bit but I’m on full’ Power and The Dodger, both bowlers getting swing in the air and movement off the pitch, in fact The Dodger managing to deliver his selections of friendship bands (has he got that many friends ?) before his Uncle Chris offered to look after them. The much sought breakthrough came early with Leach producing the first of many Kodak moments in an excellent display behind the timbers. George made further inroads before The Dodger joined the party with Davenham unable to cope with the swinging ball in deep trouble at 39 -5 only visting Skipper

Argent showing the required application before falling to The Kodak Kid when unable ‘To hold his head up’  off The Dodger. Green and Day dug in as the bowling changed with Nick and Rish keeping it tight backed up by sharp fielding from debutant Dave Royle and backed up with the usual mixture of Cruyff turns and Salsa moves. Nick breaking through the Davenham resistance taking 4 – 17, Jimmy D mopping up the tail leaving Ashley 96 for victory.

Ruby banged home the message that it was a job only half done, with this in mind Ricey & Wardy strode to the crease with a PMA and looking to play the swinging ball as late as possible. John was out of the blocks quickly cuffing boundaries square of the wicket off Bliss before falling to Korta caught at the wicket with the score at 25. Leachy came to the wicket carrying news from Nick ‘Michael Fish’ Holt regarding the arrival of potential rains in the next hour or so. Whilst not wishing to dismiss Nicks close links with The Met Office Ricey and Leachy kept the scoreboard ticking , punishing the bad ball and scampering singles

( A few too many for The Veteran Left Hander !!!). With the change of umpires at 15 overs Ulrika gave the batsman an update from his weather map as a few spots were felt and the skies darkened.

Cue Leachy producing delightful cuts and powerful drives whilst Ricey drove uppishly achieving the total in the twenty first over.

This was a big result for Ashley who can hopefully take confidence into the proverbial six pointer v Old Parks new week.

After a few beers the lads drifted off home content with 25 points in their pockets, whilst Nick listened to his new favourite band A Tribe of Toffs.
