There were several positives to be taken from another heavy defeat for the 4ths, this time at the hands of promotion chasing Bollington. Martin Blain opened the innings and was coached to an opening stand of 50 in 30 overs by Barber. Hatchell went in at first drop and seemed much happier than when opening; despite scoring only 7 he added 30 with Barber in 6 overs. Throughout the innings the bowling was especially accurate, in particular Plant turning the ball sharply to leg and off. Griffiths, more used to going in at 3 for 3 was forced to open his shoulders and get a move on and along with the ever-improving Shelmerdine added a quick 30. Amongst the DNB’s was young James Semple making his senior Ashley debut. The home side batted the full 50 overs and would need to take all 10 wickets to avoid another defeat. 14-year old McKie produced a great opening spell from the Mobberley End, uphill and into the wind; the seniors taking the Church End and all its assistance, meteorological and ecumenical. Edith was unable to reproduce his sparkling spell from last week and was hastily withdrawn. Rowe senior got out to the dreaded full bunger but this only brought Patterson and Riley together and they smashed 70 in no time to give Bolly 20 points. Next week we travel to Mobberley for our local derby; only Bredbury are below us in the table and we need to put together a decent series of performances in the last 5 weeks to avoid the wooden spoon. |
