Another 25 point haul this Saturday as Ashley bowled and caught well to dismiss a voluble Davenham side for 123. The home side got off to the worst start when Smith tickled a leg side ball to the keeper and he was soon joined by his opening partner Knight who chipped a return catch to give Latham his second wicket (14 for 2). There followed a 44 run partnership between O’Doherty and Sons in 15 overs before O’Doherty hit the ball straight to mid wicket, Sons was then tempted out of his crease and at 63 for 4 off 27 overs things looked rather bleak. Horsfall joined McKinstry and they added 58 in 12 overs. Hasan and Tyms perished trying to hit the ball out of the ground, Tyms doing so twice in his 6 ball innings before falling for Ashley’s slower ball; the tailenders nudged the ball around to post 153. A par score on a wicket with a little bit of life in it.

A great catch at mid off by Knight removed Davenham skipper Ashley for a bargain 17; then Cartilidge was run out by half a wicket by Loveridge, 34 for 2 off 13. Greaves and Sharples both fell to great catches by Power at mid off and the first of two one handed slip catches by Tyms before Cookson gave the left-handed Loveridge some support. They almost doubled the score but were both gone by the 30th over (106 for 6) The lower order chose to ignore their skippers instructions not to “give this lot a win” and Sons completed the victory in the 40th over when he yorked Latham.

Next week we travel to McPherson Park for the first of 3 derby games in 3 weeks, the professional looking Brooklands are at Ashley in two weeks and then we travel to Ashton on Mersey.
