The fourths put in a morale boosting performance away to 2nd placed Bollington on Sunday when they fell 24 runs short of a mammoth 231. Ferris and Brownhill added 166 for the 2nd wicket in 36 overs, both hitting 12 fours, the latter also hitting his first six for 3 years. Ferris fell in the 38th over trying to maintain the 8 an over needed and the middle order couldn’t quite pull it off. 

 

Earlier Matt Wardle took all 8 wickets to fall, he bowled an unbroken spell from the football ground end and appeared to have the ball on a string. Benefiting from a few words of advice from Saturday’s senior pro he tossed the ball up and cleverly varied his pace, bowling 5 of his victims, and completing a smart run out of his own bowling. He was denied another victim when the square leg umpire failed to give Madden out stumped of the last ball; the umpire seemed keen to get to the tea room.

 

The 4ths will rue to 6 catches they dropped, anyone of them would have seen a much reduced target but 11 points are a welcome return as the team strives to improve on last year’s 10th place, they currently sit 8th.
