Ashley’s season is turning into one that sees them looking nervously over their shoulder at the wrong end of the table. Another defeat this time at the hands of Davenham sees them barely 30 points off the relegation places. After a start that saw them pondering a run at promotion they will need to quickly pick up 3 or 4 wins otherwise Division 2 beckons.

The game started brightly with new opening partnership of Bradshaw and Wilson adding 40 untroubled runs in 47 minutes. Wilson then played across the line, as did most of his team mates, to give skipper Jackson the first of his 6 wickets. A drinks break though signaled the home sides decline, with Dean Jackson returning to the side after several weeks out with a side strain taking 3 wickets in one over; firstly Barber playing round a full delivery was out leg before, Shakespeare fell two balls later then Power popped a catch to short leg. Deans was then out 2nd ball, also leg before and the scoreboard read 61 for 5 off 26 overs.

McKinstry appeared to have the measure of the bowling as he added 16 with Bradshaw, but he went back to Jackson and was bowled. The right handed Hanrahan also appeared in good form until he was perhaps harshly adjudged leg before. Bradshaw was out in the 36th over and the score closed on 106 with 6 overs left.

Davenham had 51 overs to get the runs and given their need for a win made sure there were few alarms, although McNichol was dropped first ball off Hanrahan, he responded by taking a good C&B in his 6th over, but overall he was poorly rewarded for a fast hostile spell of bowling, frequently beating the bat.

Ashley travel down Hale Road to face Hale Barns on Saturday in pursuit of a needed win.

Many thanks to Dunham Scaffolding for their continued support and generous match sponsorship.
