Ashley vs Ashton on Mersey

Date: Sat 25th April 2009

Venue: Ashley

Toss won by: Ashley

Batted First: Ashton on Mersey

MATCH BALL SPONSOR: Fletcher Broadbent Partnership

This low scoring game featured several players on both sides making their debuts and more appeals than Blue Peter. Ashley failed to chase 107 for victory and Ashton returned home down the A56 with 25 very welcome points.

It all stated so well for the home side as Paul Hanrahan ran through the top order with good support firstly from Nadeem Alam and then Rick Gandy. In reply openers Craig Knight and Ash Bradshaw moved smoothly to 35 for none and then it all went Pete Tong. A few rough decisions and some good quality pace bowling wiped away the top four before some stubborn resistance from Gandy and Seamus Sons got Ashley back on track (63 for 4) this became 67 for 7 but a reprieve for Sons gave Ashley some hope. He was ninth out, caught by Agent Webb with the score on 94 and then the 7th leg before decision of the match gave Ashton a 12 run victory

Next Saturday sees us heading west to visit our friends the voluble Davenham, who themselves were dismissed for 60 odd at Hale Barns; on Sunday we visit Stockport in the 1st round of the Cheshire Cup, the reward for the winning team is an away tie in round two at Timperley.
