The fourths got through the double weekend fixtures unbeaten thanks to the dogged batting of Ged Shedwick, playing his first game for over 15 years. With cry-offs from the 3rds and 4ths they were faced with the prospect of playing a man short, but Shedwick put in an energetic performance in the field before batting out the last 5 overs to secure 7 points to go with the 24 they picked up on Sunday.

Batting first Harding and Forster added 190 for the first wicket but the introduction of Eadie saw the home side start to run through the card. After his 6 for 36 at Nantwich last year Pleaty, backed up by some good catching, took another Michelle to finally kick-start his tally for the season, twice he was on a hat-trick and he took three wickets in his 5th over. Earlier Cusack had bowled a great spell of away swing bowling, and was unlucky not to dismiss Harding before he had scored.

In reply Ferris unfurled some classic cover drives, his first 5 scoring shots were boundaries, and added 33 with Griffiths before young leggie Chesters bowled him. It was left to Birtles, who batted 25 overs and Shedwick to keep out the nagging accuracy of Hackney and the spin of Chesters and then McTiernan. Shedwick, below Eadie in the order, having to face most of the strike as Birtles’ efforts to farm the strike failed miserably, three times the ball racing to the boundary of the last ball of an over as he tried to nurdle a single.
