Ashley vs Cheadle Hulme 4ths

Date:  Sunday 30th August 2009

Venue: Cheadle Hulme

Toss won by: Ashley

Batted First: Ashley

The last game of the 4ths season was a microcosm of the whole season; batting first on a rock hard wicket we collapsed, had a mini recovery and were bowled out in less than 45 overs, the opposition knocking off the runs for 1 wicket in less than 20 overs, before the rains came.

Most other games played today were rained off and teams earned 9 points for this. We tried hard and took 3 points.

We are currently 8th in the table and Bredbury below us need 14 points or more to overtake us. They play our opponents from today and hopefully Cheadle Hulme will be just as ruthless, with the 25 points they gained today they can still overtake Runcorn and win the division and promotion. No bad thing when to top our day off the captain of the home side stiffed us for £65 for teas; at least Dick Turpin wore a mask Bob.

Congratulations to everyone who turned out for us this year, we neither conceded a game nor turned up with anything less than a full side. Some big town teams in the County League have failed to raise sides this year, something we never came close to doing.

Roll on next season when more of our juniors should be ready to step up and play senior cricket.
