ASHLEY CRICKET CLUB

The Railway Field, Ashley Road, Ashley, Cheshire WA14 3QE

Welcome to Ashley

Ashley Cricket Club was founded in 1888, and is run as an inclusive club to offer competitive sport for players of all ability.  Set in the picturesque village of Ashley, the club runs 4 senior teams and several junior teams from ages 9 to 15.  All the senior teams play within the Cheshire pyramid with the First and Second XIs currently in the Mellor Braggins League and the Third and Fourth XIs in the Cheshire League.  Ashley are committed to offering safe and inclusive environment to play cricket, with a particular focus on our younger players.  This commitment is shown through our Clubmark accreditation.  Click here to find our more.

The website is a starting point for everything related to the club.  We try to record every match that is played at Ashley and they are all accessible.  After each game the captains vie with each other to see who can outdo the others by producing a match report that will enlighten and entertain in equal measures.  We are very proud of our the information we have collected in our History area of the website.  Brian has also spent a considerable amount of time trawling through local archives to find match reports and interesting bits and bobs.  Of particular interest is the summarised history of the club which was largely drawn from the fascinating history written by Geoff Turton in 1988.

As well as this site Ashley maintains a group on Facebook.  Join this and you can take part in the lively debates or just enjoy the wit and and banter of your fellow club players and members.  Please remember, this is a family club and that young people will be reading our comments.  It is everyone's responsibility to protect the wonderful reputation of this club by ensuring that all discussion is appropriate.

To keep our members informed of everything that is going on around the club, Ashley produce a regular newsletter with loads of interesting stuff.  You can view the latest one or ones from previous months here.

A message from Andy Murray

It is with sadness that I announce the death of John Longworth, aged 91. A long-term player, umpire and supporter of Ashley CC, John joined Ashley in 1972 with his sons, Richard, Peter, Ian and Michael all playing for the club over the subsequent four decades.

John and Shirley have continued to support the club over recent years, including the very generous donation of the covers two seasons ago, and in earlier years John had been instrumental in arranging favourable loans and funds from Macclesfield Borough Council for drainage and building, as well as securing a licence for serving alcohol in the clubhouse. This had become necessary when a bawdy first team celebration got the club banned en masse from their previous home, The Greyhound.

A regular Sunday player and occasional second team performer, John took a Hat-Trick on July 18th 1982, a feat all the more remarkable as John suffered from double vision and two paralysed fingers in his right hand!

John became a regular first team umpire and quickly gained respect from both Ashley and opposition teams for his fairness, a trait which was hitherto somewhat lacking in certain Ashley umpires. This fairness led to heated discussions with members of his own team, and John would often be heard chuckling about his tussles with Ashley’s demon fast bowler, Dave Molloy, over a refused LBW appeal. All was forgotten in the bar after the game.

In a move that many of you may find regrettable, John also introduced me to Ashley CC in 1975. As he and Shirley are also close family friends, I will be extremely proud to represent the club at John’s funeral, which is being held at Altrincham Crematorium at 12 noon on Thursday 26th January.

2011 Presentation Night

The club celebrated another successful season at the presentation night following the last first team match of the season.

Sponsors

Junior Sponsorship

Ashley would like to thank John Ward for his generous sponsorship of our Junior division.

John Ward advises individuals, families and their businesses on all aspects of financial planning and wealth management.

My service is tailored to ensure I understand the requirements and needs of each client I advise and is grounded on enabling those clients to develop a bespoke plan to enable them to achieve their own current financial needs and future aspirations.

Those in business may have distinctly different financial requirements to private and retired clients as they will not only need to consider their own personal prosperity but also that of their business and employees. I have had considerable experience over the past two decades of dealing with and advising the owners of “Family run” or SME type businesses. I am experienced in helping the directors, senior managers and owners of the business integrate their personal and family needs with those of the business. Over this period I have also needed to keep these same clients up to date on the many changes in pension’s legislation which continues to affect the retirement planning of Directors, senior managers and employees.

When devising and agreeing any financial plan with clients, my advice will be tailored to help deliver the client’s aims and aspirations for themselves, their family and their business. Over any time period there may be changes in a client’s circumstances and therefore it is vital to regularly review and monitor whether the client’s financial aims are “on track” and if not to take the necessary steps to rectify the situation.

As a member of the prestigious St. James's Place Partnership the sole advisory channel of the St. James's Place Wealth Management Group, my focus and that of the practice is to provide the appropriate level of advice and service to our clients to achieve and maintain financial security for them, their families and their businesses.

I hope you find this website of interest and informative, please feel free to browse.

Please do not hesitate to Contact me with any queries you may have and I look forward to being of service to you now or in the near future.
